Bringing Novato’s History to Life
Collected, Preserved & Shared for Everyone.
Help us bring Novato’s history to the heart of our community.
New History Museum at the Novato Civic Center
-
The Museum is on the wrong side of DeLong Avenue. Docents and visitors must cross busy 4-lane DeLong Avenue to reach the Museum. Novato 3rd Graders, who visit the museum each year and tour old town, must cross DeLong Avenue twice. The Museum at City-owned Postmasters House is charming and historic, but small and cramped with accessibility issues and limited parking.
-
The Novato Historical Guild plans to relocate the Museum to the City-owned Scott House at the Civic Green – a perfect location with great access as well as more space for exhibits, lectures, meetings and community events.
-
The Guild and the City of Novato have signed an agreement to transform the Scott House into a fully accessible, modern museum using Guild funds. In exchange, the Guild has the right to operate the Museum at Scott House for fifty years.
-
The total cost to renovate Scott House as a Museum is $3.2 million. The Guild intends to raise the full amount by yearend 2025 with a combination of donations, grants and pledges. Construction will not begin until all funds are raised. With your help, we can make history together!
